The first in-person DC Grotto meeting in several years will be on Wednesday, October 21st, in the meeting room at the Recreational Equipment Incorporated (REI) Co-op store in North Bethesda, Maryland. We have the room starting at 6:15 PM. The formal meeting will start at 6:45, but everyone is welcome to arrive early to socialize (or shop at REI). The meeting will end at 8:00 when the store closes. REI is a 4/10 mile walk from the North Bethesda Metro station.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in caves and caving. You don’t have to be a Grotto member to attend. This is a great way to meet other cavers, hear about an interesting cave, and perhaps find out about some upcoming trips.
Program: Tom Beckman will do a presentation on Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle in Slovenia. This commercial cave is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful caves in the world; and Predjama Castle is the famous castle attached to a cave. Tom and Rick Royer visited the cave and castle this summer before a hiking expedition in the Italian Dolomites.
Parking: There is a parking garage on Trade Street (not on Rose Avenue) across the street from REI with free parking for two hours. If you need to pay for hours beyond the free ones, the garage require payment with your phone or credit card.
Virtual attendance: We hope to have the meeting available on Zoom, but several technical difficulties must be resolved. If we can resolve them, the Zoom link will be posted here and sent to the Grotto’s email list.
